The country is home to some of the world’s best tourist destinations, including Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary. Many Canadians also enjoy celebrating Oktoberfest in various cities across the country. There are numerous celebrations taking place throughout September and October, so there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

The History of Oktoberfest

The history of Oktoberfest starts with the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen on October 12, 1810. The couple had originally been married in a secret ceremony on September 20th. Because the Bavarian royal family was opposed to any form of public celebration, it was decided to hold a small private wedding banquet afterwards.

Since there were not enough guests at the original wedding, more celebrations were planned for subsequent weekends. On October 17th, a big dinner was held at the Royal Palace in Munich to celebrate the newlyweds. During this dinner, beer was served for the first time as an alcoholic beverage.

A few weeks later, on December 2nd, another celebration took place at Schloss Elmau near Oberammergau. This event is now known as the “First Oktoberfest”. It was attended by around 800 people and included traditional Bavarian dancing and music performances. OKTOBERFEST IN CANADA

Despite being a modest affair compared to today’s huge festivals, Oktoberfest quickly gained popularity among Munich residents and visitors. By 1817, there were already plans for a bigger celebration that would include large beer tents and hundreds of guests. But even with this ambitious goal, Oktoberfest only grew in size over time.

By 1840, Oktoberfest had become so popular that local authorities had to set up strict rules governing how it could be carried out. For example

The Rules of the Beer Hall or Festhalle

The Beer Hall or Festhalle is the quintessential German drinking establishment. The decor is typically dark wood floors, high ceilings and lots of brass. There’s usually a large bar in the front, along with several smaller bars scattered throughout. The atmosphere is festive and lively – perfect for a night out with friends.

To enjoy your time in the Beer Hall or Festhalle, it’s important to know the rules. First and foremost, don’t drink and drive! This isn’t just disrespectful to your fellow patrons – it’s also unsafe. Secondly, beaware of your surroundings at all times. It’s not uncommon for fights to break out in these establishments, so be prepared to defend yourself if necessary. And finally, remember that common Courtesy Rules still apply in a beer hall or festhalle: no loud conversations, no smoking inside (even if you’re outside), etc.
